UT s Okolo is USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

Comments
Texas senior sprinter Courtney Okolo ran the fastest time in the world this season in the 400 meters at the Husker Invitational en route to being recognized as the USTFCCCA Division I National Athlete of the Week. lt;br /> lt;br />Okolo ran 51.16 to win the 400 meters at the invite, besting former teammate and now professional runner for Nike, Ashley Spencer. It was Okolo's season debut in her primary event as she is preparing to defend her 2015 NCAA indoor title. The time of 51.16 also set a meet record for the Husker Invitational and facility record at the Bob Devaney Center. lt;br /> lt;br />The time just missed her indoor career-best 51.12 that won her last year's NCAA title. Additionally, her time is the fastest ever run by a collegian prior to championships season. Nine of the 10 fastest quarter-miles in collegiate indoor history have come at nationals, and Okolo just missed that list by a tenth of a second. lt;br /> lt;br />The win by Okolo marks the third time a Big 12 female athlete has claimed the honor this season, with Kansas State's Akela Jones earning the award twice (January 12 & 26) for her efforts in the heptathlon.
