K-State s Akela Jones Is USTFCCCA Female Athlete of the WeekPublished by
Kansas State's Akela Jones has been named the USTFCCCA Division I National Female Athlete of the Week after posting an impressive performance at the Kansas State Invitational last weekend.

lt;br />Jones, a senior from St. Michael, Barbados, posted national-best marks in the high jump (6-1.5, 1.87m) and 60 hurdles (8.17) en route to a pair of first-place finishes. Her mark in the high jump was Jones' indoor best while the 8.17 in the hurdles fell just shy of her career best.

lt;br />The senior was recently placed on the 2016 Preseason Bowerman Award Watch List, given annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation.

lt;br />Jones carried over momentum from an impressive 2015 indoor season, winning the Big 12 title in long jump while snagging high-point scorer of the meet honors. She was also named Big 12 Outstanding Performer of the Year, as well as the USTFCCCA Midwest Field Athlete of the Year.
